Studio Pilates is an invaluable tool when it comes to spinal health
Back pain occurs when a certain threshold of tissue damage is reached. This will vary from person to person.
Symptoms may include: -
Wear and tear is a naturally occurring process. However, the jobs and activities we do and the way in which we do them can speed up that process and amplify any existing strain, turning it into a pathological condition.
Relevant Pilates exercises will strengthen the core (the muscles of the pelvic floor and the deeper abdominal and back muscles that surround the spine). Core work is where Pilates really comes into its own. Any postural misalignments, poor biomechanics and muscle imbalances will be addressed. The muscles of the legs, hips and pelvis will be strengthened, providing a strong, level foundation upon which your spine is supported. With all the body-lengthening and relevant mobilising movements your spine will decompress and loosen up – this is especially beneficial if you’re sitting for extended periods of time.
Greater body awareness will allow you to take what you learn in the studio and apply it correctly and effectively to your daily activities. You will be able to identify compensatory and improper movement patterns and to adapt accordingly.
Studio Pilates will address any discomfort or pain that you have - but why not reduce its chances of happening in the first place.
